The David Gilmore Story.
He was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1699. His parents were David Gilmore and Rebecca Shaw (Shail). He was a member of the High Church of England. In 1727 he married Mary Pearson the daughter of William Pearson and Ann Brough. They had William, Nancy (Anna), and James. in 1731 he came to America bringing William. They landed in Pecataway. He built a home in Woolwich. Maine and sent for his wife and other children in 1739. They proceeded to have Jane, David, Martha and John. Jane married John Carleton, our ancestor) who was shot in the head and blinded for supposedly being a Torie. This happened off Small Point He was taken to the Percy house and his wife was notified, she was at his side when he died four days later. He was buried at night in an unknown location on Walnut Point not far from the house he had built for her. He left her with 9 children to raise. Daivd died on 21Jan1786. Mary died 8Mar1755.

Thomas P Hall
Thomas Percy Hall fought in the War of the Rebellion (Civil War). He went as a substitute for his cousin James Gilmore. He was by trade a ship's joiner (finish carpenter). The son of John Hall and Matilda Delano Hall, the brother of Benjamin Delano Hall. He went to Alexandria, Virginia and did not die in battle but died, as so many of the soldiers on both sides, of thyphoid fever. Today we know that thyphoid is caused by the salmonella bacteria. The Union lost 360,000 men to disease and the Confederates lost 260,000 men. 110,000 of those Union men died of battle wounds and 94,000 Confederate men died of battle wounds also. The Union Army had 98 medical officers and the Confederates had 24. The Doctors at that had 2 years of medical training with no clinical experience. Imagine having your son go off to war, and losing him not to a battle injury but to a disease that could have been prevented by cleanliness. So far from home and all alone! It just breaks my heart to try to imagine what it must have been for all those mothers, fathers, and sons. The sanitation in the camps was non-existent.With those heart rending thoughts I will leave you. Until next time. Your Hall genealogy insider.

Cressey (Creasey) Homestead
This house was where many generations of Cressey's and Halls were born. Caleb Cressey Sr was born in 1744 (supposedly in New Hampshire) cannot find hide nor hair of his parentage or place of birth. Before 1800 he came to Mt Vernon, Kennebec County, Maine, USA. He bought the property in Mt Vernon and lived there at first in the existing house. Around 1800 he built the house that so many of the family were born and died in. Picture of the house on this blog. Caleb Cressey Jr his son was born lived his entire life and died there. Caleb Cressey Jr had a son Albert who was born there on 9May1826 he lived his entire life and died there. Albert married Alma Spaulding, daughter of Parker and Elizabeth Danforth Spaulding. They lived their entire married lives, and both died there. Their daughter Florence married Herbert Hall , lived her entire life, and died there in 1924 of infantile paralasis (Polio). They had a daughter, Rose Alma, and two sons, Benjamin Albert, and Roy Herbert. After Florence's death Benjamin Albert lived there with his first and second wives, and had three boys (2 with his first wife Alera) and after her death married Eva Parent, and proceeded to have 1 boy and 3 girls and then moved to Freeport, Maine. Where he lived out his life until he was killed by a drunk driver in a traffic accident. The hisory that was lived and died with that house when it was burned (because it was no longer safe to explore. I was probably 5 1947. Until next time. Your Genealogy Insider

Evans Elwood Libby (my brother)
Before I start this blog I should tell you that from Evans death he was never mentioned by or spoken of to his parents. They were devastated. He was born in 1919 and lived his first few years in Mt Vernon, Kennebec County, Maine, USA. He was born on the farm that his great grandparents owned since their marriage. (Nathan Copp and Emma Jane Stevens. In or around 1926 the family moved to Auburn, Androscoggin County, Maine, USA. In 1933 Herbert Hall (my grandfather) and Roy Hall (my uncle) helped Elwood build a house for the family on 87 Coburn Street, Auburn, Androscoggin County, Maine,USA. As Evans grew older he became fastinated with airplanes. He built models and contructed their engines. As I grew up there were many models in evidence around the house on Coburn Street. In high school he took drafting, mechanical arts, and shop courses. He was a favorite with Mrs Bowen (my geometry teacher). She used to tell me I should be more of a student like my brother was. He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1939. He then enlisted in the Army Air Corp. Did his basic training, and was stationed in Bellevue, Illinois. His unit was fated to be in the death march on Battan, where so many of our young men died. On a fateful day in December in 1939 ( the 9th) he was taking flying practice and another pilot in training hit his plane and damaged it so that it crashed. Rose Alma and Elwood and his sister Pauline got a telegram saying he had been seriously injured. They made arrangements for his mother and Pauline to take the train out to help care for him but then another telegram came stating he had surcumbed to his injuries and died. Needless to say they never recovered from his death though they lived until 1988 and 1989 respectively . Until next time, Your Hall Genealogy Insider.

My Mother's (Rose Alma Hall Libby) memories
She was born in 1896. Both Benjamin Delano Hall (paternal grandfather) and Albert Cressey(Creasey) Maternal Grandfather lived with her family in a big old farm house in Mt Vernon, Maine. Also she remembered her paternal grandmother Rosilla Jane Cumner Hall. She had many memories of her grandmother. One concerned her brother Benjamin Albert. As everyone knows he really loved animals. When he was little she would take him up in the attic of her house and help him catch BATS. She was a great lover of animals also. She would keep her kitchen cats in the house part of the time and made crocheted balls for them to play with. This was in a time when people did nothing for their cats. They kept them in the barn. She was also an accomplished seamstress and made all Benjamin D (her husband) clothes for him. He had a widows hump (Kyphosis) Cheryl) on his back and could not buy cloths to fit him properly. After she died he lived with Florence and Herbert at the Cressey Farm where Mom and Albert and Roy grew up. He also had a favorite saying "inside outereds" (inside out.) Mom remembered him very fondly. More next time. Your Hall Genealogy insider
